What is this business?
An ecommerce version of the Ticket Broker business. Buying and selling tickets to sporting events, concerts, broadway shows and other events. This is called the secondary market for tickets. The tickets are sold above the face value printed on the ticket. These tickets are sold online though a website that accepts credit cards.

Is it legal?
Most states have some laws regarding this activity, whether or not you can sell above the face value of the tickets. Some states have very limited regulations and may only require a license, others are very restrictive. Please check with your own state laws or a lawyer about this type of business.

How many Ticket Brokers are there?
Well over 1,000. Not all of them are selling online. There are at least 500 brokers with websites that take orders for tickets. Many have been in business for years, even generations. Others have only started recently as web only businesses.

How big is this industry?
Hard to say, but estimates are that it is over $4 billion per year. It is growing. Many people, probably you, did not know that this market was online. As more people learn about it, sales will increase.

What are some ticket broker websites?
www.ticketsnow.com, www.everyticket.com, www.onlineseats.com, www.razorgator.com. These are some of the very largest online retailers, with well over $10,000 - $100,000 a day in ticket sales.

What kind of tickets are there?
Take a look at the sites above. Look at baseball, basketball, Madonna, The Producers, etc.

Where do brokers get these tickets?
That is a trade secret for each broker.

Can I sell tickets I get myself?
Sure.

What do I need to get started?
A web site that has tickets. We offer a prebuilt website with dozens of advanced features and an inventory of over $100 million in tickets, covering over 10,000 events and almost 1 million tickets. There is a secure shopping cart as well as a site admininstration tool.

Why not just build my own site with my own tickets?
Go for it.

How much does it cost?
It is very inexpensive. Costs vary based on the services provided. .

How much will I make on a sale?
That's up to you. You set the markup on the tickets. If the wholesale cost to you for a ticket is $100, you decide whether to mark it up to $125, $130, $140...

Who charges the credit card?
You do. We collect the customer's information for you on a secure server. You have to charge the customer's card using your own merchant account.

What is a merchant account?
If you don't know the answer, you aren't ready for this business. We want new brokers using our websites but we don't have time to train anyone on this basic information.

Can I use PayPal?
No, you need a merchant account that will accept at least VISA and Mastercard. American Express is recommended. PayPal will work at eBay.

When someone buys tickets on my site, how do I get the tickets to them?
You buy them from the "Holding Broker". There are over 500 in our system. Most purchases are done using credit cards. You then ask them to ship to your customer. This is standard practice. This is the "broker" part of the business.

How do the tickets get shipped?
Usually FedEx. You will need to have your own business account with FedEx. If it is a last minute purchase (day of the show for example), you will need to arrange with the holding broker to get the tickets hand delivered.

Can I make money on the shipping charges?
You charge whatever you want.

What about fraud orders?
This is your responsibility. All online businesses have to deal with this including giants such as eBay and Amazon. You need to confirm the validity of each order yourself. Some brokers will call each customer, others require a fax copy of the credit card and license.

What happens if there is a problem with an order such as chargebacks?
You need to solve it. This is your business, your customer and your supplier.

What if I already have a website?
Great, you can add our database of tickets to your site. This is called a plugin. You will need a webmaster or have a good knowledge of HTML yourself.

Why is this site and your ads so lame?
We are too busy to create fancy ads and graphics. Would you rather we had Flash and full color glossy ads and then raised our fees?

How long does it take to get started?
We can have your site up and running in a day or two.

What else do I need?
A domain, visit www.godaddy.com, they are less than $10/year. You will also need a logo for your site, you can supply one or we can build you one for $100.

Do you have any options?
Yes, you can get our wholesale ticket exchange. This shows the entire inventory of tickets and tells you who owns them in case you want to shop around for a cheaper set of tickets for one of your orders.

We also have a Point of Sale system to run your whole business. This has integrated credit card processing, FedEx shipping, client database and much, much more.

How can I market this?
Like any business, there are many ways to get sales. You can advertise online or in your newspaper or on the radio or wherever you think is best.
